The AGNI in potential AGNIVEER

In general, commuter’s board their train from distant parts to travel to Secunderabad railway station and then get to their work place. However, on June 17th, something unusual happened. A group of protesters rampaged one of the busiest railway stations in India for the reason being a major policy change in recruitment of soldiers into the armed forces. Noises of having political conspiracy have not been a stranger thing like that of many protests. Albeit, what horrific was the costs of destruction involved?

It was estimated that around Rs.700 crores of loss has occurred in a period of four days all over the country. These damages are tangible and have been accounted for but what about those damages which are intangible? What about those people waiting for their goods to be reached through trains? Property of innocent people is arsoned and a common man bears the burden. Who is accountable for such great losses? Is it the government? The protesters? (or) The conspirators? The stain is on everyone. Only when all wheels of a car function properly the drive goes smooth.

First, the government had to disseminate proper information vis-à-vis taking into account the trust of the stakeholders before launching the scheme which was not done. Second, the protesters despite knowing about the scheme never raised their voices. When the idea was mooted not a single student raised his/her voice against the scheme except some veterans of the armed forces. Third, major fault and accountability is with the conspirators like Subba Rao director of Sai Defence Academy, who was held responsible for instigating this protest in and around Secunderabad railway station.

Nonetheless students too had to be in a state of mind where they shouldn’t get instigated by such actors of violence. Those willing to be soldiers have to behave like one. By setting public property on fire, they thought of mimicking Bhagat Singh for his act of throwing bomb in central legislative assembly “to make the deaf hear”. Unfortunately, they misunderstood the anger behind Bhagat Singh’s actions. It was a revolutionary act contesting for a change. It was for freedom of a country. These protests are nowhere equal to such an honorary act. Through these unsound actions, students are at loss of losing their golden opportunity of being a part of mighty Indian army. This ‘agni’ in these aspirants (potential agniveers), if used in right means, would meet a right end. However, when one uses his/her power only for destruction would definitely be a path of Agnipath.
